It was Barry Humphries who invited Ian Shaw to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival this week for A Bit Of A Mouthful, "a one man/one piano trip down Slightly Grumpy Lane."
Melbourne will reap slightly different rewards when the two-time BBC Jazz Vocalist of the Year makes his debut at the Paris Cat in Goldie Place this Friday and Saturday.
Perth pianist Grant Windsor, a friend of Shaw's from years in London, will lead an Australian trio as the former stand-up comedian shows us his main gig as singer-songwriter and interpreter of jazz standards and contemporary songs spanning Joni Mitchell to Radiohead.
Shaw's first trip to Australia follows 17 albums released since 1990.
